James C. Guy

Dr. Guy received his bachelor’s degree in Bible and counseling from International Bible College (now Heritage Christian University) in Florence, Alabama.  He earned a Master of Arts in Counseling from Liberty University, and a Ph.D. in psychology with emphasis in family systems from Capella University.  Guy worked for 20 years in professional ministry as a preacher, as well as working with youth and college groups.  While working in ministry, he also taught part time with Faulkner, then with Liberty University, before returning to teach full time with Faulkner in Fall 2013.  In addition to his pastoral counseling experiences, he also completed an internship with West Alabama Mental Health Center in Demopolis, Ala.  His interests in psychology and counseling are varied, but include work with adolescent and young adult populations, as well as various psychology systems.  He has a special interest in research on the connection between psychology and spirituality, which was the subject of his dissertation.

One of his favorite scriptures is: Philippians 2:3-4, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
