The Writing Center

Mission Statement

Scripture tells us that our words have the power of life and death (Prov 18:21). At the Faulkner University Writing Center, we are committed to helping students learn how to use their words wisely so that they can evoke positive change in our world.

Mission in Practice

The Writing Center offers free, one-on-one consultations to all students at Faulkner University. The student coaches are both talented writers and trained tutors who enjoy supporting their peers throughout the writing process. They assist students in generating ideas, developing points, organizing material, incorporating sources, checking for errors, and other tasks involved in the writing process. Students of all backgrounds, proficiency levels, and academic disciplines can expect to receive customized support that will help them to become more confident and capable writers.

In addition to the services offered to all Faulkner students, the Writing Center is a primary tool for students enrolled in remedial English courses. As part of their course grade, remedial students are required to attend one 30-minute writing session per week. Typically, remedial students who regularly attend their weekly sessions demonstrate significant improvement over the course of the semester.

The Writing Center is located in Brooks Hall, room 405. Hours vary from semester-to-semester and week-to-week based on availability. Walk-ins are always welcome if sessions are available, but making appointments in advance is highly encouraged to ensure students receive the help they need when they need it. To view the schedule or sign up for an appointment, students should visit faulkner.mywconline.com. Students may also contact the Writing Center by phone at 334-386-7294, or they may contact the director, Amber Traw, by calling 334-386-7119 or emailing atraw@faulkner.edu.
