Institutional Review Board

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a faculty driven board that engages in a peer-review process of proposed research and scholarly endeavors among the university faculty. The goal of the IRB is to ensure no subjects are harmed and make determinations about faculty grant awards. Questions about the IRB should be directed to Dr. James C. Guy (chair) or Breanna Yarbrough (vice-chair) irb@faulkner.edu.

Mission of the Institutional Review Board for Research

  • To facilitate the scholarship of faculty and students,
  • To promote the Christian character and mission of the institution in the scholarship of faculty and students,
  • To ensure integrity and ethical conduct in research, and,
  • To ensure that research practices minimize risk to subjects, both human and non-human, and that potential benefits from research activities are maximized.

For this mission, the University and the Institutional Review Board for Research have established procedures and guidelines for research conducted by Faulkner University faculty, staff and students. Faculty, staff, and students should carefully review the IRB’s policies, procedures, and timelines prior to engaging in any research activities.
