The Faulkner University Summer Institute is aimed at providing free, high quality professional development for K-12 classroom teachers, administrators, media specialists, and school counselors. The Faulkner University College of Education is committed to supporting the success of our K-12 partners in fostering student success.

Denise Williams Mallett, Ed.D.

Dr. Denise Williams Mallett is a higher education leader and consultant with over 25 years of experience advancing student success, equity, and institutional strategy. As a Partner at Marygrove Consulting, she partners with colleges and universities nationwide to support inclusive leadership and culturally responsive practices. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees at Central Michigan University.

Scott Mitchell

Scott L. Mitchell has dedicated 27 years to public elementary education in Hoover City Schools, Alabama, with over 12 years as the principal of Brock’s Gap Intermediate School. Recognized as the longest-serving active principal in Hoover City Schools (2024), he led Brock’s Gap to achieve notable accolades, including a State of Alabama School of Character (2024), a National Green Ribbon School (2014), and consistently high state report card ratings, including a 99A+ in 2023-2024. He is a long-time leader in state educational organizations and a passionate advocate for student success. Beyond his academic pursuits, Scott is deeply rooted in the Helena, AL community, where he and his family have enjoyed living for the past 15 years. He cherishes time spent with loved ones, including his wife of 25 years, Leanna, and his children Jackson and McKenzie, both students at Auburn University. A devoted member of his local church, he also enjoys outdoor activities, cheering on the Atlanta Braves and Alabama Crimson Tide, and the company of his two golden doodles, Maggie and Mo.

Heather Windham

Dr. Heather D. Windham, PhD, LPC, NCC, is a counselor with Pathways Professional Counseling in Montgomery, and Prattville, Alabama. She has previously served as a school counselor and professor of counseling education. She is trained in EMDR, Theraplay Level 1, and Gottman Level 1.

Nathan Evans

Nathan has been working in various capacities in higher education for nearly four years and as a Student Success Instructional Technologist for the last year and a half. In this position, he works with professors to provide individualized technology coaching and redesigns online courses to meet institutional expectations and best practices for online education. He earned his BA in French with Teaching Licensure from Harding University in 2020 and a MS in Educational Media and Technology from the University of South Alabama in 2024. Since then, he has earned his Peer Reviewer certification from Quality Matters and has spoken at various conferences on the use of artificial intelligence in the classroom.

Christi Jones

Christi S. Jones, Ph.D., LPC, serves as an Associate Professor and the Director of the School Counseling Master of Education Program at Faulkner University. With over 15 years of experience as a school counselor in a high-needs school, she brings a wealth of expertise to her role. In addition to her role as an educator, Dr. Jones also provides counseling services through her private practice and is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) informed.

Angie Moore

Angie Moore serves as the Director of Libraries at the Gus Nichols Library. She holds a master’s degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Alabama. She holds a bachelor's degree in Art, with a concentration in two-dimensional design, from the University of Rio Grande, located in Rio Grande, Ohio. Angie has worked in libraries for 30 years with 25 years at Faulkner University.

Johna Channel

Johna is a lifelong learner, a Constructivist, an Independent Consultant, a former instructional math coach, and a former AMSTI K-5 math specialist. Her mission is to move math forward for instructional coaches, teachers, students, and you.

Rebecca Horn

Rebecca Horn teaches in the College of Education. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Faulkner, a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Auburn University in Montgomery and an Education Specialist degree from Auburn University also in Elementary Education. Her professional experience includes 27 years in the elementary classroom. After retiring from the public-school system, Rebecca Horn came to Faulkner University to share the blessings in teaching young students. She has been associated with Faulkner for the last 39 years. She graduated in 1988, her husband in 1980, Josh, her oldest son in 2018, and her youngest son, Jesse, graduated in 2020. “Coming back to Faulkner has been one of the greatest blessings in my life. Returning to Faulkner strengthens not only my dedication to Christian education, but allows me to share the joys of a Christian life.

Misty Wilson

Misty Wilson is an Education Specialist for the Alabama Reading Initiative, specializing in literacy proficiency beyond grade three. Before joining the Alabama State Department of Education, she served as a Regional Literacy Specialist and Local Reading Specialist in multiple school districts. Education became her passion after her youngest son’s Dyslexia diagnosis, inspiring her commitment to literacy advocacy. Misty stands with ALSDE and ARI in supporting educators and schools to ensure all students achieve grade-level reading. She believes in the power of relationships, rigor, and revolution—building strong connections, maintaining high expectations, and driving meaningful change in education.
