Basic Search Warrant Writing- 6 Hours of CEU’s

This course provides a practical, step-by-step approach to writing search warrants. Attendees will learn how to determine whether a subpoena or search warrant is appropriate, and how to collect and organize the necessary information to support the warrant application.

Students will be guided through the process of drafting warrants for property, phones, computers, and social media accounts. By the end of the course, each student will have prepared a search warrant for instructor review and will leave with a customizable search warrant template for future use. The training is for 6 hours of CEU’s and certificates will be provided.

Requirements:

· Students must bring a laptop with Microsoft Word installed.

· It is recommended that students arrive with a general idea of the type of search warrant they would like to develop during the course.

Instructor Bio

Instructor Bio: Chief Alan McDearmond

Chief Alan McDearmond brings nearly three decades of diverse and progressive law enforcement experience, with a distinguished focus on criminal investigations. His career began in 1996 as a volunteer with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. He graduated from the OWCC Police Academy in Niceville, FL in 1998 and went on to join the Hartselle Police Department in 1999, the same year he completed training at the Jacksonville Police Academy in Alabama.

Throughout his career, Chief McDearmond has demonstrated a deep commitment to investigative work and specialized training. He is a computer forensic examiner and a long-standing member of the National White Collar Crime Center. In 2007, he was among the first to graduate from the University of Tennessee’s Cybercrime Academy, further solidifying his expertise in high-tech and cyber-related investigations.

He has steadily risen through the ranks of leadership, being promoted to Sergeant in 2011, Lieutenant in 2019, Captain in 2023, and ultimately Chief of Police in 2025. In 2012, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Athens State University, and in 2022, he graduated from the FBI National Academy (Session 282).

Chief McDearmond’s career is marked by a proven ability to lead and develop investigative units, mentor new officers, and apply cutting-edge forensic techniques to complex cases. His wealth of experience and instructional approach make him an invaluable asset to any training program focused on search warrant writing and investigative procedures.
