Ph.D. in Management

Enrolling now — classes begin January 11, 2027

The Ph.D. in Management is a 60-hour, applied-dissertation doctoral program for scholar-practitioners who lead, teach and research from a biblically informed worldview. Completed in ten semesters in a limited-residency format, it prepares graduates for careers as university faculty, researchers, consultants and organizational leaders. The program is open to both domestic and F-1 international students.

Program Information

Faulkner University’s Ph.D. in Management is an applied research doctorate for professionals who want to teach at the university level, lead research and analytics functions, consult, or shape organizational and public policy. Housed in the Harris College of Business & Executive Education, the program builds on the college’s Master of Science in Management with Emphasis (MSM-E) and is designed as its natural next step, while remaining open to applicants who hold a master’s degree in business from another institution.

The 60-semester-hour curriculum combines ten core management courses, three electives, three research-methods courses and four dissertation courses. Students take two courses (6 semester hours) per semester and finish in ten semesters, or roughly 42 months, with three entry points each year (spring, summer and fall).

Students complete the program in a hybrid format: each semester, one course is fully online and the second includes a multi-day residency.

The completed dissertation and its oral defense serve as the program’s capstone. Throughout the program, coursework integrates faith and management, ethical decision making and moral leadership, reflecting the university’s mission to develop graduates who integrate faith, learning and service.

Faulkner University is institutionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC); the Ph.D. in Management was approved and included in the university’s scope of accreditation in August 2026.

Residency FAQs

Where are residencies held?
Residency sessions are offered based on enrollment. Dates and locations are provided to enrolled students each semester.

What is the residency attendance policy?
Attendance at each residency is mandatory. Students who miss their scheduled residency must attend the make-up session in Montgomery, AL, and must pay a $250 residency make-up fee before participating. Students who choose to attend the Montgomery, AL session as their regular residency will not have a make-up opportunity.

Can the make-up residency fee be waived?
Yes. The $250 make-up residency fee may be waived with documentation for medical circumstances, a death in the family, flight cancellations, the student’s or an immediate family member’s wedding, or inclement weather. The fee is not charged to students with an approved Medical Reduced Course Load or a duplicate residency week.

Where are make-up residency sessions held?
Each semester, one residency session is held at our main campus in Montgomery, AL. This session is open to students as their regular residency and also serves as the make-up session for students who missed their scheduled residency. Because it is the only make-up offered each semester, students who choose to attend the Montgomery, AL session will not have an opportunity for a make-up session. Failure to attend all days of the make-up session will result in a failing grade for the course, as well as potential dismissal from the University and, for F-1 students, SEVIS termination.

How many make-up residencies are allowed?
Only one make-up residency is allowed per program/degree. A student who misses a residency, attends a make-up residency, and subsequently misses a second residency will be withdrawn from the University and, for F-1 students, the SEVIS record will be terminated.

Are all three days of the residency mandatory?
Yes, all three days are mandatory, and requests to arrive late or leave early will not be approved. If you miss any portion of the residency, you will be counted absent for the session and will be required to attend the make-up session and pay the required fee. Please plan your travel accordingly.
