The Faulkner women’s basketball program raised more money on its “Pink Out” night to benefit the Play4Kay Foundation than any other participating NAIA school in the country. The Lady Eagles sold pink basketballs and allowed donations instead of charging admission to its game against Spring Hill raising nearly $1,000 for the Kay Yow Breast Cancer Fund. Kay Yow is the late North Carolina State women’s basketball coach elected to the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2002.
Women’s basketball programs all over the country participated in the Play4Kay initiative, which took place Feb. 10-20 and represented an opportunity to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses and in communities. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in conjunction with the V Foundation and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, announced winners in all divisions of competition, from the high school level to the NCAA Division I level.
“I was very pleased and surprised when we got the call that we had raised more money than any other NAIA school for the Play 4 Kay Foundation,” Faulkner head coach Reed Sutton said.
“We are very proud that the Faulkner community did their customary great job in giving of their means for this wonderful cause. However, we also want to do more and challenge our NAIA competitors to do more in the future to find a cure for breast cancer.”
