Summary of Employee Benefits

If there is any disagreement between the information below and the information in the plan document for any University benefit, the plan document will govern.

REGULAR FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES:  Full-time faculty members are eligible for all University benefits subject to the qualifying conditions of each benefit.   In addition, with regard to benefits, staff employees with faculty status who regularly work at least 40 hours per week for a period of no less than 8 months per year will be considered the same as full-time faculty.   All other employees who regularly work 40 hours per week for a period of 12 months are considered to be full-time employees and are eligible for all University benefits subject to the qualifying conditions of each benefit.

Retirement:  Tax Deferred Annuity Retirement Plan- 403B

  • Eligibility-Employees must complete one (1) year of service and attain age of 21 before the University contributes to the Plan.
  • Employees may make salary reductions contribution to the Plan with no waiting period.
  • Benefits of the Plan are provided through the following fund sponsors:   Diversified Investment Advisors, Inc. and Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association and College Retirement Equitities Fund (TIAA-CREF)

Health Benefits

  • Medical/Dental Insurance
  • Coverage is available through Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Alabama.
  • Eligibility - complete 60 days of continuous active service.
  • Effective Date of Coverage - the first day following completion of a 60 day waiting period of continuous employment and acceptance by BC/BS.   
  • Premium cost to the employee is set by the University annually.

Life Insurance

  • A minimum of $20,000 life and accidental death insurance is furnished to the employee at no cost.

Flexible Benefits Plan

  • Employees may elect to have cost for selected benefits deducted from their paycheck on a Pre-tax basis, resulting in lower taxes.   Eligibility begins the first of the month following a 60 day waiting period of continuous employment.

Supplemental Insurance Coverage

  • Certain additional insurance products are available through Benefit Planners Inc. and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Alabama.

Holidays

  • Twelve and one half  paid holidays are provided annually.
  • Two personal holidays.

Annual and Sick Leave

  • Employees accrue annual leave based on length of service and classification.  Sick leave is accrued at the rate of eight (8) hours per month.

Length of Service Award

  • Employees who have completed at least five years of continuous service are eligible for longevity awards.

Tuition Assistance

  • A percentage of the tuition may be waived for eligible employees, their spouses, and dependents participating in certain classes at the University.   Waivers are not available for Jones School of Law or Independent Studies.

REGULAR PART-TIME EMPLOYEES:  Employees who regularly work less than 40 hours per week or less than 12 months are considered to be part-time employees.

  • Eligibility - Employees who normally work at least 20 hours per week, complete (1) one year of service and attain age 21 are eligible for University contributions.
  • Employees who normally work at least 20 hours per week may make salary reduction contributions to the Plan with no waiting period.

Leave & Holidays

  • Employees who regularly work at least 32 hours per week for a period of no less than 9 months are eligible for sick leave and holidays on a pro rata basis.
  • Employees who regularly work at least 32 hours per week on a 12 month basis are eligible for annual leave on a pro rata basis.

Length of Service Award

  • Employees who are classified as "part-time eligibile for benefits" and have completed at least five years continuous service are eligible for longevity awards.

TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES:   Employees who are classified as temporary are not eligible for University benefits except workers' compensation and unemployment compensation as provided by law.

 

ALABAMA UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION PROGRAM:  Faulkner University participates in providing coverage for all qualified employees.

 

WORKERS' COMPENSATION:  Coverage is provided to all employees for injuries that may occur while at work.

 

EMPLOYEE SERVICES:

  • Athletic Events - Employees and their families are admitted free to all regularly scheduled athletic events with presentation of ID card.
  • Auto Decal - Required auto decals can be obtained from the Security Office.
  • Bookstore - Employees receive 10% discount on all items with the exception of textbooks.
  • Cafeteria - Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available in the University cafeteria.   Discounts are granted to employees and family members.
  • Check Cashing - Employees may cash personal checks up to $50 per day in the Business Office.
  • Christmas Club - Employees may participate in a Christmas Club through payroll deduction.
  • Direct Deposit - Employees that are full-time and part-time scheduled to work at least six months will be eligibile for direct deposit.   Temporary employees are not eligible.
  • Employee Identification Cards - All employees (except temporary) are eligible to receive a photo identification card.   Cards are issued in the Student Services Office.
  • Library - Employees are eligible for all library privileges.
