During the first conference of Christian College Librarians in 1974 at Oklahoma Christian University , a need was voice for an index to periodicals published by members of the churches of Christ. The feasibility of producing such an index, using the computer facilities of Abilene Christian University (ACU), was demonstrated at the 1975 conference held at ACU.
As a pilot project, a computer-produced author/subject index, including eight periodicals for the first quarter of 1974 was compiled, using indexing provided by nine librarians, and was distributed at the 1976 conference held at Harding University. Librarians attending the conference decided to continue the project and to expand to an annual index including additional titles.
The first annual Index was published in May 1977, and included thirteen titles published during 1975 within the brotherhood of churches of Christ. Several three-year compilations, beginning with 1975-1977 have since been produced. Several librarians have contributed to the indexing and editing of valuable research tool.
