Dear Colleagues,

Most of you may remember that during the 2008 CCL meeting we voted to develop an endowed scholarship to provide partial support for Christians completing their MLIS.  Up to this point the scholarship has been funded by the institutional members, but Hope Shull had a bigger dream – to develop an endowed scholarship so CCL would have an even greater impact on our profession. An endowed scholarship enables CCL to be a stronger force of encouragement and financial support for Christians interested in becoming professional librarians.

It was also decided the endowed scholarship would be named in honor of Geneva Hoover because she exemplifies what all of us strive to be as Christian librarians. Geneva has been the epitome of a Christian librarian and was an integral member of CCL throughout her professional life. During many of those years she served as an indexer and the CCL Historian and always supported the goals and efforts of CCL

Geneva was professional and knowledgeable about all aspects of librarianship while always displaying a servant’s heart in everything she did. Students and faculty, other librarians, and anyone who visited the library at Oklahoma Christian University, were all touched by her love for the profession and the joy she found in serving others through it. Through her gentle mentoring and the professional example she set, she not only influenced many to appreciate libraries but influenced some to become librarians. I personally fall in the last category and I will always be grateful for everything she taught me and the opportunities for growth she provided.

If you would like to make a contribution to the Geneva Hoover Endowed Scholarship please make out your check to Christian College Librarians, Inc. and notate the Geneva Hoover Scholarship Fund. All donations are tax deductible as charity contributions. Mail your check to:

Thank you so much for considering supporting CCL and our profession in this way. If you know of someone else who is interested in promoting the library profession and may be willing to donate to the scholarship fund, please feel free to contact them. Let me know if there is any way I can help or if you have any questions.
