Faulkner University
Faulkner Universitys Missions for Christ is a ministry experience program designed to assist students in participating in mission activities domestically and internationally. Its primary purpose is to provide ministry support to missionaries while providing the students with missions experiences. The missions program at Faulkner is designed to provide quality academic instruction with practical missions outreach programs. Missions for Christ is comprised of students, faculty, and others interested in missions and meets to develop and facilitate participation in mission efforts. The goal from these practical mission experiences is to raise-up long-term missionaries for future mission efforts.
Honduras Mission Trip - May 1999
This summer a group of students and faculty made a two-week trip to Honduras in the wake of the devastation of Hurricane Mitch. Besides the spiritual benefits and blessings to the mission trip participants, the purpose of the trip was twofold. First, it was to assist the missionaries in rebuilding and repairing homes and schools destroyed by the hurricane. As the immediate crises for relief slowed, the long process of rebuilding the country's infrastructure continued. Through this mission effort the church has been able to build a great deal of goodwill for future evangelistic efforts in this unreached area. The second purpose was to provide a positive Christian presence in an area where the church is just beginning to be planted and grow.
Honduras is in Central America south of Guatemala and north of Nicaragua. The mission group was based on the coast of Honduras near the town of Trujillo where the church has a camp setup. The team worked with Mission del Caribe which had been highly involved in the work in Honduras prior to the hurricane and was very much a part of providing relief in the aftermath of the devastation. Our area of work was in the Colon and Olancho areas.

| "Going to Honduras was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences that I have ever had. It really made a difference in the way I look at the world and especially the way I look at my world." Jerrad | |
| "I think the biggest lesson I learned was one of humility. I learned that people are the same no matter where you go." Liz | |
| "When two people decided to be baptized, we had to walk a long time to find some clean water. We must have looked like a parade going down the road. It was pretty neat!" Nathan | |

The students enjoyed the World Mission Workshop at Oklahoma Christian this year and are now beginning to work on their fund raising letters for next summer's mission trips. Churches begin to set their budgets by December so those planning on a summer mission trip are preparing to have their letters ready to go by the end of November.
The V. P. Black College of Biblical Studies encourages individuals and churches to support these students' participation in mission experiences. It encourages their spiritual growth and exposes them to ministry opportunities which will help them in their academic preparations and future vocations.
Summer 2000
Honduras - a mission group will return for follow-up work in conjunction with Mission del Caribe. The dates for the mission trip to Honduras is May 13 through 27.
Fall 2000
World Mission Workshop - The workshop will be hosted by Western Christian College in Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada on October 19-22, 2000. Faulkner will be taking a group to participate in that annual gathering of students interested in missions from many of our universities.
Summer 2001
Honduras - follow-up mission trips to previous years.
East Africa - plans are under way for a group to work and learn from missionaries in East Africa. This mission experience may be either a rural or urban ministry.
As with all mission works, there is the perennial need for prayers and financial support. Faulkner students will begin raising funds November of 1999 for this summer's mission trips. These students commit part or all of their summer vacation time to assist missionaries in their labors while gaining a valuable mission experience. It is our goal that experiences such as these will complement their academic preparation and raise-up future missionaries and church leaders who support mission efforts.
