Kyle's Practicum
Tegucigalpa, Honduras
| I
grew very attached to many people in many different communities around
the city of Tegucigalpa . Their tears as we left their communities the
final time were proof that we had built real relationships. There is
no doubt that we made a difference. The cartoon above was in the Honduran
newspaper a few weeks after we got there. |

Most of the work in San Miguel was disaster relief. Honduras fell victim to its worst rainy season in many years this summer, and, as a result, many homes and lives were lost in communities like San Miguel. We were able to give many families new homes in San Miguel and the other communities mentioned. In San Miguel, one family had been living in a tent for five months. They were in that tent during Tropical Storm Adrian in May! This is just one of the countless families that saw the love of Christ in the gift of a new home!
So many people decided to commit their lives to Christ. Baptism was interesting because it occurred in whatever we could find—rivers, laundry tubs, 55-gallon drums, and baptisteries (very rare!). But regardless of where and how, many people created fiestas in Heaven when they made the most important decision of their lives.
There is no possible way for me to really explain my experiences. You cannot comprehend what the Father did with your prayers and support. Stand in front of a woman who has four kids and a new house, and hear her say, “I've been praying for this house,” or, “Praise God, I will pray for you everyday.” When thirty people around you are weeping because they don't want you to go and you cannot help but weep with them, or when you see fifteen barefooted kids playing in the playplace at Burger King for the first time, then you can understand.
Trust me, my mother saw all my pictures and heard all my stories last year, but when I looked over at her in Honduras this year, she was crying and she said, “Now I know why you love it hear so much!” I thank you from the bottom of my heart and on behalf of those we touched for whatever contribution you made—financial or in the spirit of prayer. Praise God and may he continue to guide you to ministries in which to serve and support.
