FOR GROUP STUDY, RESERVE
A GROUP STUDY ROOM!
Looking for a place that your study group can meet? Try one of the library’s second floor group study rooms. Using a group study room also helps reduce the noise level for others who are studying in the library. Just follow these procedures:
- A group (i.e., 2 or more students) may reserve a group study room for a maximum of a single 2 hour time block
- A group may reserve only one group study room for one 2-hour block per day – but a group may remain in a room beyond the 2 hour reservation period if no other group has signed up
- To reserve a room, contact the library circulation desk in person or by telephone (386-7219) and give your name, another group member’s name, and the requested reservation time
- Keep group study room doors closed and hold conversation to a reasonable level
- If a group study room is left unoccupied (i.e., not occupied by at least 2 students) for 10 minutes during a reserved time block the room will be considered vacated, allowing another group to reserve the room (leaving personal effects in a room is not occupation)
- Direct any questions to a member of the library staff
- For the group study room policy, see /jsl/library/groupstudy.asp
- To view all library policies, see /jsl/library/policies.asp
The library staff – and your fellow students – thank you for your cooperation!
CHECK OUT THE LIBRARY’S
NEW TWEN SITE
Your law librarians have put together a TWEN site with loads of useful features in one easy-to-find place. Access it through the law school’s TWEN page. The new library TWEN site has updated information on library hours, Databasics offerings, a list of passwords to the library’s proprietary electronic research databases, an electronic suggestion box that lets you send your comments anonymously, and more. We will continue to add features, and welcome your ideas!
CLOSE OUT THE SEMESTER WITH
A “DATABASICS” REFRESHER
Need a little research training as the semester winds down? Our series of Databasics workshops can help. These informal, 30-40 minute sessions are held in our Computer Training Lab on the first floor. A monthly calendar of Databasics sessions is posted around the law school and on the library website. Here are the Databasics sessions for the rest of Fall Semester:
Ø Researching Using Restatements – Our judicial system is built on case precedent, but the common law treatment of subjects like torts, contracts, and property can take on a lot of regional spice. The Restatements of Law boil those subjects down to their general principles, so the overall flavor of American law comes out. (Fri. 11/9 at 2:30p; Mon. 11/12 at 4:30p; Wed. 11/14 at 6:30p; Fri. 11/16 at 11:30a)
Ø Researching with Legal Treatises – Common research fare like legal encyclopedias or nutshells can only take you so far. Sometimes, you need information that’s more sophisticated and detailed. Legal treatises offer more extensive discussions of subjects, ala carte. (Fri. 11/9 at 11:30a; Tues. 11/13 at 4:30p; Thurs. 11/15 at 1:00p; Fri. 11/16 at 2:30p)
Ø Databasics Semester Smorgasbord – Here’s one last chance to catch the Databasics session you need. Just let us know in advance, so we can offer the session you want. Contact the Research Office (386-7233 or jslreference@faulkner.edu). (Mon. 11/26 at 11:30a; Tues. 11/27 at 4:30p; Wed. 11/28 at 6:30p; Thur. 11/29 at 1:00p)
Watch for the next issue of The Library Link in 2008.
Best wishes on your final exams!
