The Films of Library Week

Now that you've returned, tanned and relaxed after Spring Break, the Law Library invites you to stop by and celebrate National Library Week (April 3 through April 7) with us. Our theme, this year, is Librarians: Heroic Figures in Action! To further illustrate that theme, we recommend the following films that showcase librarians in their appropriate roles as action heroes.

The Mummy : Thrills and chills galore as librarian Evie Carnahan (Rachel Weisz), and adventurer Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) do battle with the magic and minions of the evil mummy, Imhotep. Rated PG-13 for adventure violence and some partial nudity.
Read Or Die (R.O.D.): In this imaginative Japanese anime film, Yomiko Readman, a young female agent of the Royal British Library's Division of Special Operations, uses her powerful psionic power over paper to stop a plot for world destruction. Not Rated.

Black Mask : Michael (Jet Li), a former test subject of a project to create super soldiers, is forced to escape with his comrades after the project was cancelled. Months later, he is trying to have a quiet life as a librarian. However, a string of vicious gangland murders begins that has all the markings of his former compatriots who seem to have turned to violent crime. Donning a mask to protect his identity, Michael must fight these powerful villains as the mysterious superhero known only as Black Mask. Rated R for strong language and unrealistic martial arts violence.

The Librarian: Quest for the Spear: ER's Noah Wylie stars as the librarian of the New York Metropolitan Library, protecting its most precious holdings - magical artifacts like Excalibur, Pandora's Box, and the Spear of Destiny - from the evil Serpent Brotherhood who threaten to use them for world domination.
