FIND LAW JOURNALS EFFORTLESSLY WITH “SERIALS SOLUTIONS”

Where can you find a 1991 article published in the Texas Law Review?  On the shelves?  In Westlaw?  In another electronic database?  The library’s substantial collection of law journals are found in several formats and in a variety of locations, so sometimes it’s not easy to know where to look – especially if you’re in a hurry.  The library now subscribes to a bibliographic service that will give you a “one stop shopping” solution to this problem.  It’s called “Serials Solutions” and you can access it from the library’s website.  Just click on the link below and use the “E-Journal Portal” to type in the title of the journal that you are trying to locate:

 /jsl/library/ejournalportal.asp

Of course, if you have questions or would like some personalized training with Serials Solutions, please contact our librarians in the Research Office on the first floor of the library.  (Our phone number is 386-7533, and our email address is JSLreference@faulkner.edu).

“DATABASICS” SCHEDULE

Need a little research training as the semester gets down to crunch time?  The library’s series of Databasics workshops can help.  These informal, 30-40 minute, small-group sessions are held in our Computer Training Lab on the first floor of the Library.  A calendar of the current Databasics sessions is posted around the law school and on the library website.  Here are the Databasics sessions that will be offered during the remainder of Fall Semester:

- Federal Taxation – Taxes are one of the only sure things in life, and tax attorneys are glad of it.  Join our newest law librarian, Ned Swanner, as he shows you how to make sense out of Federal Tax research.  This workshop will offer tips on how to use both online and print sources, but will feature our CCH OmniTax subscription database.  Tax attorneys pay big bucks to access what you can use for free!  (Tues. 11/14 at 5:30p; Fri. 11/17 at 2:30p; Mon. 11/20 at 9:00a)

- News Research – From trials with gloves that don’t fit, to awkward public photos, to editorials about new legislation, to legal notices about property sales:  digging through news reports is “non-legal” research that touches almost all facets of the law.  This spin-free workshop will help you navigate the news trails as you search for truth in the news.  (Wed. 11/15 at 3:00p; Fri. 11/17 at 10:30a; Tues. 11/21 at 10:30a)

-The Finals Countdown:  Databasics Semester Recap – As the semester closes, we’re offering you a final chance to relive (or maybe to finally catch) your favorite Databasics sessions.  Three 2-hour blocks have been set aside, with you setting the agenda.  Let us know in advance, so we can offer the session you want.  But if you feel adventuresome, drop by as the “Wheel of Destiny” chooses the sessions.  Whatever it lands on, you’ll still learn a thing or two – guaranteed!  (Thur. 11/30 at 10:00a and 6:00p; Fri. 12/1 at 1:30p)

ADVANCED LEGAL RESEARCH” COMING IN SPRING 2007

We’re pleased to announce that the 2-credit hour elective in “Advanced Legal Research” that will be team-taught by our law librarians in Spring Semester 2007 has been filled to capacity!

Watch for the next issue of The Library Link in 2007.
Best wishes on your final exams!
