The Office of Career Services provides counseling and information to assist students in making informed career decisions. Career Services is here to provide you with the resources and tools to launch a successful job search. A common misconception about career services offices is that they are designed to "place" law students in jobs or "find" jobs for law students. Our office is not a placement office and does not find jobs for law students. Rather, our role is to teach, guide, and facilitate the career planning process so that students and alumni will be equipped with the necessary skills to secure their dream job at any point in their careers. Whether your plans involve practicing as an attorney at a firm, governmental entity, non-profit, working in a non-traditional legal career, or pursuing employment outside the field of law, Career Services is here to help.
Counseling
We are available throughout the year for one-on-one counseling by appointment and on a walk-in basis. During scheduled appointments, we review resumes and cover letters, develop career plans and job search strategies, and counsel students on career-related or law school-related resources.
Skills Workshops
The CSO conducts a series of educational programs and skills workshops every fall and spring semester. Speakers from a variety of practice areas are invited to educate students. Skills workshops focus on topics such as resume drafting, interviewing skills, application processes, networking, and job searching. Through these workshops, you will gain the skills needed to conduct a successful job search.
Networking Events
Each year, a variety of networking events are held to connect students with alumni and other practicing attorneys. Starting in the fall with the alumni/student meet and greet, the Career Services Office works to unite students with the practicing bar in a variety of settings. In addition, students are invited to numerous off-site activities that allow them to interact with their future colleagues in the law.
Mentor Program
Alumni generously give their time to current law students to answer questions and be a resource for insight into the practice of law. Students are able to meet and interact with their mentor as often as they wish, and alumni help us train the next generation of lawyers.
Online Job Postings
Job announcements from public and private sector employers are posted on our Career Services TWEN page. To access the TWEN page, please click here. You will need your Westlaw password.
Recruitment Programs
Twice during the academic year, Career Services sponsors on-campus interviewing. In addition, Career Services provides employer resume forwarding, job posting services and participates in select job fairs. These services are designed to provide students with a broad range of summer, part-time, full-time and permanent job opportunities. For more information, please contact the Office of Career Services.
Resource Center
Career Services maintains a resource center for student use. You may use the resource center whenever the office is open. These materials do not circulate. Additional career services materials are housed in the law library, which is accessible during normal library hours.
