One should never lean too much on the future.
It shifts.
Yet, Faulkner University is planning for the future by focusing on the present. It’s a clear Scriptural image: what you plant, you harvest. If you sow discord, disorganization, and disbelief, you’ll have a fairly pathetic crop. You’ll taste the fruit of your labor, what fruit is born, and it will taste rotten. That’s why Faulkner pours its energy and resources into pursuits we know are God approved.
FAITH: It begins with Him. Everything envisioned and then enacted by Faulkner University is viewed through Christ-colored glasses. The Bible classes are designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of God, His Son, and His Salvation through knowledge of the Scriptures. In addition, students are offered the tools to make this knowledge real and active: to redefine humanity’s knowledge through God’s wisdom. Chapel services are offered Monday through Thursday. Faulkner also hosts the Annual Bible Lectureships, which brings some of the best biblical scholars from around the country—and such events aren’t only for the boys. The Lectureships feature ladies-only classes too. The Institute for Faith and the Academy is also a recent addition to Faulkner, a wholly worthy one. Its goal is to keep focused the conversation about higher education with Christ as its center.
ACADEMICS: Education is Good (with a capital G). Our Father has blessed us with the ability to learn, and Faulkner is dedicated to providing the best faith-based education available. That begins first with the faculty. Faulkner offers a diverse group of educators united by Christ and a commitment to the individual student. Our university is also determined to consistently improve and expand our programs. Among the more recent additions are the Bachelor of Science in Informatics degree, the Master of Liberal Arts degree, and the Master of Education degree. Our additions also take our students beyond the classroom; the summer of 2005 marked the maiden voyage of our Faulkner Study Abroad program, in which students traveled to Florence, Italy and London, England. Faulkner is home, too, to the Great Books Honors College, which delves into some of the greatest literature ever written and reaches far beyond higher education to its eternal implications.
CAMPUS: It’s an on-going joke on Faulkner’s campus that the university adds a building each year. That’s not far from the truth though. In the last ten years, Faulkner has added roughly seven buildings and renovated even more. The Thomas Goode Jones School of Law was among the first and nearly doubled its size and accommodations. Others include the M. B. (Pop) Myers Fine Arts Center, a third building for the Harrison Apartments, the Harris-Parker Building, and a Women’s Residence Hall. Perhaps our most recent addition has been the Student Multiplex, a massive structure that features classrooms, state of the art exercise and recreational facilities, and a restaurant. Faulkner University is also pleased to announce it recently finished construction on its new field house for the Faulkner University football team, and plans are also underway to completely renovate our Gus Nichols Library. Eventually we’re going to run out of room … but not yet.
STUDENTS: Faulkner University continues to swell its ranks each year with outstanding students, both academically and spiritually. The University is dedicated to providing these students with a quality education in a nurturing Christian environment. It’s for this reason Faulkner continues to place such emphasis on faith, academics, and its campus facilities.
With such Godly pursuits, Faulkner’s future looks bright indeed.
