Eagles blank Shorter in conference win

Sept. 29, 2007

Rome, Ga. – The Eagles were anxious to get back in the win column after last night’s loss to Berry College. Faulkner arrived at Shorter College focused and determined and were able to eliminate the Hawks 30-26, 30-28, 30-26.

“We handled them fairly well,” head coach Tori Bartels said. “We managed to shut down two of their big hitters and forced them to use other options.”

It was a big day for several of the Eagles. Brittany Harden recorded 11 kills, seven digs, and four total blocks. Holly Hutcheson added 11 kills and 14 digs. Carrie Butler had a strong match with 17 digs and three aces while Shaleen Knight racked up 27 assists.

The Eagles move to 14-6 on the year and hold out at 4-1 in conference play. The Eagles sit at third in the conference and look forward to a big match at home on Tuesday. Faulkner will host Lee University, currently the top team in the conference and second in the region. The Flames are undefeated in conference play and the Eagles look to spoil their 6-0 record in what may very well be the biggest match for the Eagles this season. The game is set for 6 p.m. on Tues., Oct. 2, in the Tine W. Davis Gymnasium.
