Faulkner stumps Southern Wesleyan
Oct. 20, 2007
Montgomery, Ala. – Faulkner opened the day with Southern Wesleyan and did so in a humorous and entertaining style. In an odd rotation, defensive specialist Kari Wiggins started on the front row and no setters were on the floor. The fun mix brought some much needed laughter to a bruised Eagles team. Faulkner was able to seal the match in three games 30-15, 30-22, 30-24.

The offense was led by junior Holly Hutcheson who had 12 kills and five aces. Marci Lobendahn knocked home another seven kills and a pair of aces. The defense played well overall and was led by Libero Carrie Butler with 20 digs.

After an off match in which the University of Mobile will face Southern Wesleyan, the Eagles will have the rematch of the season. After losing last night’s rematch with Loyola, the Eagles are determined not to go out quietly against the Rams of Mobile. The Rams are 24-2 on the year. One of their losses came at the hands of the University of Southern Alabama, the other, was against the Eagles. Mobile has remained undefeated since their loss to the Eagles and the streak is currently at 19 games, 20 if they can topple Southern Wesleyan.

The Rams are vying for a spot in the NAIA top 25. They have been consistently receiving votes and continue to strive to be among the nation’s elite. The Eagles look to end the winning streak and prove that they deserve their position among the region’s top teams.

The Rams are currently the top seed in the region, while the Eagles sit in fifth position. All that will change if Faulkner can pull off the upset of the year. The match is set for 5 p.m. in the Tine Davis Gymnasium.
