Faulkner Invitational Results: Schedules and Scores

 

 

FAULKNER TO HOLD OPEN TRYOUTS

The Faulkner University volleyball program will be holding open tryouts on Decembrer 5, 2009 from 9-11:30 a.m. and again on January 9, 2010 from 2-4:30 p.m.

The tryouts will be held in the Tine W. Davis gymnasium on Faulkner's main campus.

Campus tours will be given at both tryouts. Please contact  head coach Tori Bartels for more information.

Eagles end season with a bang

November 14

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Faulkner came from two games down to sweep the last three and advance in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament in Cleveland, Tenn., with a 21-25, 24-26, 27-25, 26-24. 15-13 upset victory over Columbia Friday afternoon.

The sixth-seeded Eagles had lost the two regular season meetings with Columbia, the tournament’s No. 3 seed. Lerin Hoback’s service ace on match point won it for Faulkner (6-24). Columbia fell to 24-10.

Faulkner’s Neysa Hernandez had 15 kills (.211), seven digs and two total blocks. Kimber Holt added 14 (.462) and seven total blocks, while Jessika Robinson (.375) had 12 kills and a block and Samantha Talley (.400) had 11 kills and four total blocks. The Eagles’ .258 hitting percentage was a season best. Shaleen Knight had 32 assists and eight digs for Faulkner, while Maddie Brinkley had 17 digs and Abbie Melvin had 11.

Faulkner ran out of steam in their semi final match with second-seed Shorter College, however. The Hawks eliminated the Eagles 25-11, 27-25, 25-12. Robinson had another strong performance hitting .400 with eight kills. Hernandez added six kills and three total blocks. Holt finished the match with five kills.

Robinson's efforts in the tournament didn't go unnoticed and the senior picked up all-tournament team honors for the Eagles.

The Eagles closed the season with an overall record of 6-25 and finished 4-10 in conference play. No. 19 Lee University, the league's top seed, went on to clinch the tournament in five sets against the Hawks.
