Eagles “Rammed” in final home game

Oct. 20, 2007

Montgomery, Ala. – After a fantastic first game that the Eagles lost by only three points, Mobile’s offense began to speed up and Faulkner couldn’t maintain the pace. The Eagles lost their final home game of the season to the region’s number one team 30-27, 30-16, 30-20.

Game one was exactly what both teams and the fans expected; point swapping until the last minute. The teams were even until a few hot serves by the Rams pulled them ahead with the Eagles unable to close the margin.

Game two was entirely different5472qa . The Eagles spent a great deal of time in the serve receive and were forced to play more from the back row. The Rams took advantage of the struggling defense and pinned the Eagles 30-16. The Eagles never fully recovered.

Game three started off as a disaster. Mobile shot ahead 8-0 and the Eagles began looking for answers. The defense sparked for two straight points and senior Marci Lobendahn entered the serve. The Eagles began to rally, but an unquestionably bad call seemed to dampen team moral even further. The Eagles made some great plays and won a collection of long volleys, but were unable to string together enough consecutive points.

The Eagles are 21-11 on the season and will face two more regular season opponents next week. Faulkner will visit Spring Hill College on Tuesday followed by Columbia on Saturday. The two games will close out regular season play giving the team approximately two weeks to prepare for the conference tournament set to begin on Nov. 8. Having faced the toughest teams throughout the season the Eagles know what to expect upon entering the tournament and have all of the tools required to make a strong finish in the SSAC.
