Faulkner’s Cheryl Lavarnway named Pitcher of the Week

The Southern States Athletic Conference chose Cheryl Lavarnway as Pitcher of the Week in its second selection of the season. The senior earned the honor by allowing only six hits and no earned runs over 19 innings. She also compiled 17 strikeouts in route to a 3-0 week against conference opponents.
Lavarnway helped elevate the Eagles to 7-3 in the conference after sweeping Emmanuel College and Southern Wesleyan University at home over the weekend. The wins moved Faulkner to first place in the SSAC and set the team on a five game winning streak.
This was the second conference award the Eagles have earned this season. Sophomore Courtney Barber was named Player of the Week in the first selection process. Faulkner is the only university to have athletes honored both weeks.
