One hit wonder; Jimmerson leads Eagles in win over Lady Warriors

March 22, 2008
Montgomery, Ala. – The Eagles began weekend play by sweeping conference rival Emmanuel College on Friday. Today Faulkner looked to duplicate the performance against conference foe Southern Wesleyan. The Eagles armed themselves with fast bats and strong pitching and buried the Lady Warriors 8-0 in six innings.

Emily Jimmerson started at the mound in game one of the doubleheader. The freshman followed yesterday’s spectacular play with another brilliant performance. Jimmerson had a no hitter going until the top of the sixth when a pop fly was lost in the sun giving Southern Wesleyan their first hit of the game. Jimmerson finished the game with five strikeouts, while giving up only a single hit and no earned runs.

Faulkner started the game with a bit of frustration as they left the bases loaded in the bottom of the first. The Eagles juiced the bases again in the third inning and earned a run on a walk, but were unable to drive in successive runs. In the fourth inning however, things began to heat up for the Eagles. Sophomore Erin Pierce rocked an RBI double before coming home off of a follow up RBI single by catcher Katie Godfrey. The Eagles sat with a 3-0 lead after three innings.

In the fifth the Eagles loaded the bases after two successful bunts which brought Shauna Suttle to the plate. The sophomore pounded a 3-RBI double with no outs giving the Eagles a 6-0 lead. Junior Brittany Hardmon would finish things off for the home team in the sixth inning when she cranked a 2-RBI triple to meet the run limit.

Shauna Suttle was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Erin Pierce was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Jessica Tumlinson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Katie Godfrey was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Sophomore Samantha Kendrick was 1-for-1 and Eden Harris 2-for-4.

The win brings the Eagles to an even 15-15 on the season and boosts the conference record to 6-3 which currently gives the Eagles the top spot in the SSAC. Game two of the series will begin at approximately 3 p.m.
