Faulkner can’t extinguish Flames’ spark
March 13, 2008
Montgomery, Ala. – After stinging Lee 1-0 with a walk-off home run in game one the Eagles went back to work, hoping to overcome their four series split streak by taking game two. Lee jumped out to an early lead and though the Eagles were able to tie it mid game the Flames pushed ahead for a 4-2 victory.

After a scoreless first Lee put up a run in the second inning and added another in the third giving the visitors a 2-0 lead. Faulkner evened the field in the bottom of the fourth inning as they rallied into a tie. In the top of the fifth, however, a questionable call that would have ended the Flames’ offensive attack kept Lee alive and the ensuing batter, JaShaundrea Hinton, jacked a two-run homer. The Flames carried the 4-2 lead through a pair of scoreless innings to clinch game two.

The Eagles produced eight hits in the second game. Shauna Suttle and Katie Godfrey were each 2-for-4 with an RBI. Courtney Barber was also 2-for-4 and Erin Pierce and Brittany Hardmon were both 1-for-3.

Cheryl Lavarnway gave up only six hits and four earned runs, while striking out eight batters. Ball contact was extremely good for the Eagles throughout the afternoon. Lee was able to strike out only two Faulkner hitters, while the Eagles blistered 18 at the plate.

The Eagles continue to struggle with the split series virus as the total now sits at five straight. The young Eagles team shows nothing but improvement and continues to spoil games for even the strongest opponents. Faulkner will travel to Orange Beach, Ala., this evening and will enter the Gulf Coast International tournament tomorrow afternoon. The event is scheduled to run through March 16.
