Faulkner rebounds in seventh for the win

Jennifer Ellisor knocks in the game winning run against the Barons

April 11, 2008

Montgomery, Ala. – After annihilating Brewton-Parker in the opener, the home team found itself trailing late in the second game. The Barons led by two heading into the bottom of the seventh, but the Eagles refused to end the series on a sour note and with brilliant last minute batting turned the tide for the 5-4 win.

Game two was mostly a back and forth battle. The Barons put up a run in the second and Courtney Barber answered with a solo homer, her second of the day and 11th of the season, that same inning. The teeter-totter effect held until the sixth and seventh innings when the Barons scored a run in each inning giving them a 4-2 lead heading into the Eagles’ final at bat.

Junior Brittany Hardmon reached first on a walk and was followed by a double courtesy of sophomore Shauna Suttle. Junior Katie Godfrey dropped a hit into shallow center field, scoring a run, and Courtney Barber drove in the tying run soon after.

Brewton-Parker began praying for extra innings, but Faulkner had other plans. Freshman Jennifer Ellisor took matters into her own hands and ripped the ball to center field, driving in the winning run. The Eagles quickly evacuated the dugout to gang-tackle the freshman near first base.

The wins elevated the No. 20 Eagles to 24-17 overall and 13-3 in the SSAC to remain atop the standings. Faulkner will travel to Southern Wesleyan on Monday for a make-up series with the Lady Warriors.

The celebration continues!
