Eagles blank the Barons

Montgomery, Ala. – Faulkner hosted a doubleheader this afternoon with Brewton-Parker College. The Eagles held a short ceremony before game one to honor the team’s lone senior and its head coach. Faulkner then went on to eliminate the Barons in just five innings 8-0.

Lavarnway holds her gift from the softball team junior class
Senior Cheryl Lavarnway was honored for her career as an Eagles pitcher. Head coach Hal Wynn presented her with a Senior Day memory frame and the junior softball class followed with a gift of their own.

Wynn was also honored in the pre-game ceremony. Vice President Joey Wiginton presented the coach with a plaque in recognition of his 500th career victory which occurred on March 29 against Reinhardt College.

Emily Jimmerson gains six strikeouts in game one
Freshman pitcher Emily Jimmerson opened game one in spectacular fashion striking out the first two batters and causing the third to pop up for the easy out. She finished the game with six strikeouts and allowed only two hits and no runs.

Katie Godfrey gets one of her two RBIs against the Barons in game one
While the Barons were suffocating at the plate the Eagles were explosive. The home team put up 10 hits in the game, five of which came in the first inning. Courtney Barber lead the team going 2-for-3 with five RBIs. The sophomore offered up a two-RBI single early in the game followed by a three-run blast in the fourth.

Junior Katie Godfrey went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and sophomore Erin Pierce finished 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Game two will begin at approximately 3:30 p.m. at the Faulkner softball complex.
