Eagles bury Barons in series sweep

Faulkner unloaded early in game one and followed with an offensive explosion late in game two to clinch the series sweep against conference rival Brewton-Parker. The Eagles coasted to an easy 6-0 victory in game one and sealed the doubleheader with a 6-1 win in the second event.

Emily Jimmerson (5-2) did an outstanding job in the circle for the Eagles in game one. The sophomore pitched a no-hitter through four innings and had four strikeouts. Samantha Kendrick took over in the fifth, doing more of the same. The junior gave up only two hits and added a strikeout in the shutout.

The Eagles' offense was on point in the opening inning. Senior Brittany Hardmon rocked and RBI double for the game's first run. Junior Courtney Barber and sophomore Jennifer Ellisor each added an RBI to give the birds a 3-0 lead.
The pace continued into the second inning when leadoff hitter Eden Harris cranked a 2-0 pitch over the fence in deep left. The home run was the junior's second of the season.

The Barons decided to make a pitching change early in the second inning, but that didn't keep the home team from knocking in more runs. Barber put down her second RBI single of the game giving the Eagles a larger margin at 5-0.

Faulkner scored its final run in the sixth inning when Shauna Suttle went yard for the first time this season. The junior ripped the home run with two outs and a full.
Harris was an impressive 4-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and a stolen base. Barber and Suttle were each 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one RBI respectively.

Game two was much like the first, but with the Eagles dominating the scoreboard late. Faulkner took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Hardmon took home on a wild pitch. That score held until the fifth inning when Suttle punished a perfect ball for an RBI triple. Sophomore Jama Hanna followed soon after with an RBI single.

Some erratic fielding gave the Barons an opportunity to put a run on the board in the sixth, but it was too little too late. The Eagles were strong at the plate that same inning. Hardmon delivered a two RBI double up the middle followed by another RBI single from Barber. Brewton-Parker was unable to deliver in the seventh, giving the Eagles the series sweep.

Katy Wiggins (2-3) controlled the defense throughout game two. The sophomore allowed only four hits and struck out three at the plate to pick up her second win of the season.

Barber wrapped up game two 3-for-4 with an RBI. Hardmon finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and Hanna was 2-for-4 a single RBI. Harris was 2-for-4 with a triple.

The wins moved the Eagles to 7-5 on the season. At 2-0 in the Southern States Athletic Conference the program is now even with Brenau University at the top of the standings. The team will travel to Orange Beach this weekend to compete in the Gulf Coast invitational. Faulkner kicks off the tournament with Thomas University at 10 a.m. on Friday.
