Faulkner rode the strong pitching of Emily Jimmerson to beat 13th-ranked William Carey 4-2, then exploded with the bats to route Spring Hill 11-3 Saturday in the Faulkner Invitational softball tournament.

The Eagles finished their season-opening event by winning three of four games, matching No. 6 Mobile and No. 11 Lee for the weekend’s best records. Faulkner’s only loss came when it gave up a last-inning lead to Mobile Friday night.

In the opener, Jimmerson scattered seven hits and struck out seven to pick up her second win of the weekend. Haley Munroe was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Eagles, who scored a pair of unearned runs in the victory.

And while there may have not been much offensive punch in Faulkner’s first game of the day, the Eagles certainly made up for it in the second. Eden Harris and Brittany Hardmon opened the game with back-to-back home runs as the Eagles raced to a 5-0 lead.

With the lead at 7-3 in the fourth, Faulkner’s Katie Godfrey blasted a three-run homer to put the game away. Harris and Hardmon each had a pair of hits for the Eagles, as did Godfrey, who finished with four RBI. Munroe added three more hits in the second game, while Cynthia Batchelor added a pair of RBI.
Katy Wiggins (1-1) earned the win for Faulkner, allowing three earned runs on seven hits. She struck out five.

“I thought we played well this weekend,’’ Faulkner coach Hal Wynn said. “We pitched well at times and hit well at times. We’ll keep working to get more consistent with both.’’

In other Saturday games, Auburn Montgomery split a pair, beating Thomas 5-2 and losing to Spring Hill 5-4. Lee beat William Carey 2-1 and lost to Mobile 7-2. Shorter beat Thomas 7-0 before falling to Mobile 4-3.
Faulkner hosts Auburn Montgomery Saturday in a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader.
