Faulkner drops final two at Orange Beach

March 14

ORANGE BEACH - Faulkner dropped two of three games here Sunday in the Gold Division tournament of the Orange Beach Invitational softball tournament.

The Eagles (8-12), despite getting a pair of home runs from Courtney Barber, dropped a 5-4 decision to No. 12 Shorter in their first game of the day. Faulkner rebounded in its second game, riding a three-run home run from Scottie Wilkes and the complete-game pitching performance from Katy Wiggins en route to a 4-0 victory over Montreat. In its final game of the tournament, Faulkner fell to No. 25 McKendree 4-1. Barber had a solo home run to account for the Eagles' lone run.

Faulkner travels to Franklin Springs, Ga., Friday to take on Emmanuel.

 

Faulkner splits two at Invitational

March 13

ORANGE  BEACH - Faulkner edged Ohio Dominican 2-1 then fell to Freed-Hardeman 4-3 in the Gulf Coast Invitational softball tournament here Saturday afternoon, ending pool play with a 3-1 record. The impressive two-day showing has the Eagles playing in the Gold Division tournament Sunday.

Samantha Belden earned the victory against Ohio Dominican, pitching a complete game. Jessi Palmer had a solo home run for Faulkner.

Duke took the loss for Faulkner (7-10) against Freed-Hardeman. The Eagles got two hits apiece from Missy Duke and Scottie Wilkes.

 

Faulkner wins two in Gulf Coast Invitational

March 12

ORANGE BEACH - Haley Munroe's RBI in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Faulkner to an 8-7 victory over Houston Victoria in the Gulf Coast Invitational softball tournament here Friday afternoon.

Faulkner led the game 7-0 in the fifth inning before Houston Victoria got to Eagles' starter Katy Wiggins, scoring seven runs in its final three at-bats. Faulkner's Missy Duke earned the win in relief, and also hit a pair of home runs for the Eagles.

In their second game Friday, Faulkner (6-9) edged Campbellsville 3-2. Courtney Barber had a two-run home to lift the Eagles to their fourth straight victory. Scottie Wilkes also had an RBI. Emily Jimmerson scattered five hits to earn the victory.

Faulkner plays a pair of games Saturday, facing Ohio Dominican at 11 a.m. and Freed-Hardeman at 2:30 p.m.
