Eagles secure shutout in conference opener

Faulkner opened conference play with undefeated rival Southern Wesleyan University on Saturday. While the Eagles entered the event at 2-0, the Lady Warriors arrived at 4-0 and with two Southern States Athletic Conference victories already under their belt. Faulkner proved too much for the visitors however, and rolled to their second straight shutout with the 4-0 win.
The Eagles struck first in the 15th minute with a goal by Jennifer Parrott off an assist by Nikki Jagt. Parrott would score here second goal late in the game giving her two on the day.
Jagt built on her assist with a pair of goals as well. The scores marked the 99th and 100th career goals making her one of only 13 players in NAIA women's soccer history to hit the triple digit score total.
Samantha Ruddick, Jessica Monarch and Lecia Foster each had an assist.
Goalkeeper Lisa Gallea secured the shutout with 15 saves.
“I thought we struggled defensively,” said head coach Jeff Ireland. “We played too many high-risk balls in the back that often got intercepted. Over all it was not the most organized match but the girls did produce an outstanding result so we will look to build off of that.”
The Eagles are now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the SSAC. Faulkner will look to stay undefeated and to move into first place in the league with a victory over Brewton-Parker on Tuesday. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Eagles' new Dalraida facility.
