The men's soccer team took a break out of their hectic preseason training to slow down and honor Faulkner soccer alumni in a scrimmage game last Saturday.
The afternoon was filled with soccer, food and fun. It was an extra special day for head coach Brett Mitchell who started both the men and women's programs at the university. “It was great to have so many of these guys back,” said Mitchell. “It was an opportunity for the current players to meet with some of the guys who started it all and it was fun to get everyone out here to the new Dalraida facilities.”

The alumni showed well in the event, earning the respect of the new team. Five-year assistant coach Bruno Resende got in the game to show off some skills and new assistant Glenn Townsend played the role of referee. Even the team managers got in on the action.
The Eagles have fun even in the heat
After the contest the group gathered around the BBQ pit at the back of the field for a meal and to share stories from years past. “It was a great day for everyone involved,” Mitchell added. “It was nice for everyone to relax and have fun before the school year and season get underway.”

The team will face Wallace State in a preseason exhibition on Aug. 13, at 3:30 p.m. in Hanceville. The Eagles open the regular season with Tennessee Temple at home on Aug. 27 at 4 p.m.
