Men's soccer program has productive off season

New recruits play in indoor soccer games for a chance at a spot on the '08 roster

Montgomery, Ala. - The men’s soccer program conducted open try outs during the off season in November, January and February. Approximately fifty prospective US and international students come to visit the campus and vie for a position on the roster. Thus far the program as added 12 new players through the open tryouts and both national and international recruiting efforts.

The current athletes have being working on performance and conditioning with weight lifting and speed and agility training. They have also been playing in Montgomery’s adult indoor soccer league and competing in small tournaments out of state. Some sites include Knoxville, Tenn., Jackson, Miss., and Greenville, Ill.

Some upcoming events for the program include their annual seven-on-seven soccer tournament on March 29 as well as a trip to Brazil at the end of May. The players will be involved in a week long soccer training camp followed by a week of mission work in conjunction with Torch Missions. The men's program will also be offering soccer camps for the community this summer and preseason will begging on August 1. One highlight of this year's preseason schedule will be a week of training with the Charlotte Eagles professional soccer club in North Carolina.
