Faulkner offense dominates first of two-a-days
Saturday, Aug. 11 - Faulkner's offense dominated the day as head coach Jim Nichols put his team through its first two-a-day workouts of fall practice Saturday at Goodwyn Junior High School. The early morning practice, which began at 6:30, had the Eagles offense pitted against the defense in one-on-one drills and for the first time in a week, it was the offense that excelled.
"The running backs had a really good day, and our quarterbacks continued to play well,'' Nichols said. "For the first time, it was a day for the offense. The guys on offense were pretty jacked up about it too.''
Nichols said tailbacks Terrance Craig and Trent Richmond stood out in the drills.
The late morning practice concentrated specifically on special teams, with placekickers Josh Medley and James Huff turning in strong efforts. Punter Derek Arrington also had a good day, as did Chad Kilgore, who along with battling for time at quarterback will handle some situational punting duties.
Faulkner will take Sunday off, with players meeting with their position coaches late in the afternoon. Next week the Eagles will practice once Monday, Wednesday and Friday and twice Tuesday and Thursday. The two-a-day practices will start at 6:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., while the single practices will start at 9 a.m. All Faulkner practices are currently at Goodwyn and are open to the public.
