Cavs explode in second half to route Eagles

WISE, Va. - Randy Hippeard tossed three touchdown passes in the second half and Virginia-Wise scored the game’s final 28 points as the Cavaliers ripped Faulkner 47-12 here Saturday afternoon in the season finale for both teams.
The Eagles (2-9) trailed 19-6 at halftime, but cut the margin to 19-12 on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Philip Moore to Luther Burton with 9:07 to play in the third quarter. From there, however, it was all Cavaliers. Hippeard found Brad Ricker for a 71-yard scoring strike and quickly followed with a 13-yard touchdown toss to Aric Evans that pushed the lead to 33-12 after three quarters.
Virginia-Wise (8-3) tacked on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, with Bruce McMullen scoring on a 13-yard run and Hippeard finding Brade Slade from two yards out.
McMullen’s 44-yard run and Hippeard’s 44-yard toss to Evans staked the Cavaliers to an early 13-0 first-quarter lead. Jurrell Williams answered for Faulkner with a 12-yard touchdown scamper to cut the lead to 13-6, but McMullen’s short run to the end zone handed Virginia-Wise the 13-point halftime lead.
The Cavaliers amassed 543 total yards – 359 off the passing arm of Hippeard – while the Eagles only gained 233.
