Eagles regain "legs" after four days off
August 26, 2008
After four days off due to weather, Faulkner head football coach Jim Nichols was glad to get his team back on the field Tuesday. "We had our last scrimmage of the year today," commented Nichols shortly after practice. "We were able to run 80 to 100 plays and that was good because we have had so much time off."
According to Nichols both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball struggled early on in the inner-squad scrimmage. "We looked a little sluggish because we have been off for a while, so it was good getting out there and getting our legs under us today," Nichols said.
Nichols and his staff were also glad to see Colton Terry and Danny Bice return to the field; both student-athletes have been hurt during much of the pre-season practice.
Nichols also hopes to have a kicker and backup quarterback named by the end of the week.
The Eagles begin the 2008 season at Samford in Birmingham on Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. The home opener is the following week at Cramton Bowl when the Eagles host cross-town rival Huntingdon at 7 p.m.
