Eagles rest up before Sunday scrimmage
August 21, 2008
Under head football coach Jim Nichols, the Eagles of Faulkner University have been putting a lot of hard work and a ton of hours into their practice schedule over the past three weeks in an effort to get ready for their season opener at Samford in just over two weeks.
"It is time to take a break for a day or two and give these guys some rest," said Nichols shortly after Thursday's practice at Cramton Bowl. "The time off is much deserved for our players and our coaching staff."
Thursday's hour-long workout will be followed by a short walk-through on Friday and an off-day on Saturday. All the rest is in an attempt to get the team ready for a closed-to-the-public scrimmage on Sunday.
"We'll attend church as a team Sunday morning and then we will be heading to our scrimmage," Nichols said. "We are excited about our scrimmage, because we'll be able to see what these guys can do for us now that they know the system."
Wide receivers Danny Bise and Colton Terry were both able to join Thursday’s practice after having to sit out due to injuries. "We are counting on both Danny and Colton," said Nichols. "It will be good to see them in action on Sunday to see where they fit in."
Following the season opener in Birmingham on Sept. 6, Faulkner returns home the following week to host cross-town rival Huntingdon at 7 p.m at Cramton Bowl.
