Montgomery, Ala. – The Eagles hosted the Georgetown College Tigers this afternoon for one of the most anticipated games of the season. The NAIA preseason poll has Faulkner as the fourth seed, while Georgetown fills the sixth spot. The game came down to the final seconds, but the Tigers were able to hang on for the 78-75 victory.

Faulkner led Georgetown 41-38 at the break and was able to pull ahead to an 11-point lead by the middle of the second half. The Eagles seemed to have the Tigers pinned and then the game took a turn.

The Eagles were unable to score for several minutes as the game clock continued to dwindle, while the Tigers were able to string together a series of unanswered points and gain the lead. What seemed like an inevitable victory soon became a battle for survival. Costly turnovers and missed shots began to take their toll and though the Eagles fought back to tie the game with approximately one minute to play the Tigers were able to push through for the three-point win.

Not to be outdone by the players the referees were fairly active in the event. The whistle happy game saw a whopping 64 free throw attempts with the Tigers shooting nearly twice as many as the Eagles.  Shots from the line accounted for 37 percent of Georgetown’s scoring. Add to that the staggering 43 turnovers between the teams and it becomes clear that it was a physical and emotionally charged game.

“I think we got complacent in the second half,” said junior forward Aaron Greenwood. “We started to play not to lose instead of playing to win.” Greenwood had eight points and three rebounds against the Tigers.

Faulkner’s Bryant Murray led the floor with 20 points and added six assists and three rebounds.  The remainder of the Eagles’ scoring was fairly evenly distributed throughout the roster. Jon Uriarte had eight points and two rebounds and Durrell Richardson added another eight points and three boards.
