FAULKNER WINS SSAC CROWN, EARNS BID TO NAIA TOURNEY

The 2006-2007 Faulkner basketball team earned its seventh trip in nine years to the NAIA national tournament in Kansas City, capturing the regular season championship of the Southern States Athletic Conference. The Eagles (21-10) were ranked 18th in the final poll and are scheduled to play 7th-ranked San Diego Christian - the co-champions of the Golden State Athletic Conference - in the tournament's first round Thursday night, March 15, at 9:45 CST.

The Eagles finished the regular season with a 14-4 SSAC record, earning their fourth conference championship in the past seven seasons. Faulkner has also won four SSAC tournament crowns over the same time period.

At the SSAC's post-season banquet three Faulkner players were named to the all-conference team - junior guard Richarde McCray, junior guard Bryant Murray and junior forward Jon Uriarte. Ernest Jordan, who started much of the season in his first year of collegiate basketball, was named to the all-freshmen team. Senior guard Raul Cardenas and sophomore forward Aaron Greenwood were selected to the league's all-academic team.
