Faulkner falls in double OT
November 13
Martin Methodist’s Chris Goodwin hit 8 of 10 three point attempts, including a dagger in the second overtime as the RedHawks held off Faulkner 96-92 Friday night on the first day of the Jimmy Faulkner Classic at Tine Davis Gymnasium.
With the game tied at 88, Goodwin came off a screen and buried the bomb that gave Martin Methodist the lead for good. The RedHawks hit five free throws in the closing minute to slam the door.
Faulkner’s Chris Palmore had masterfully extended the game twice for the Eagles – hitting a three in the closing seconds of regulation to tie it, then making a dunk off a steal in the final seconds of the first overtime. But it was Goodwin, who finished with 29 points, who stole the show.
Faulkner led 37-33 at the half, but failed to make a basket in the first nine minutes of the second half as Martin Methodist raced to a 14-point lead with 13:24 left. The Eagles battled back, however, setting the stage for the frantic finish.
Randell Moore led Faulkner (0-2) with 28 points and 16 rebounds. Palmore finished with 22 points, while Jamarious Alderson added 11. In addition to Goodwin’s big night, Martin Methodist (5-0) got 17 points and 10 rebounds from Will Shackleford, 14 points and 10 rebounds from Brandon Ashford. Aubre Bodison and James Livingston added 12 apiece for the RedHawks.
Both teams are back in action in the Classic Saturday, with Martin Methodist facing Auburn Montgomery at 4 and Faulkner taking on Life at 6.
