February 6
WALESKA, Ga. - Randell Moore scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Faulkner ended a four-game Southern States Athletic Conference skid with an 89-80 victory over Reinhardt here Thursday night.
Moore paced five Eagles in double figures, with Josh Gholston adding 12 points and Aaron Greenwood, Oneil Mangal and Chris Palmore 11 apiece. Faulkner improved to 13-10 overall and 5-8 in the SSAC. Reinhardt, which got 28 points from Kordel Alexander, fell to 9-13 overall and 2-10 overall.
The Eagles erased an early 9-0 deficit with a 10-0 run to take their first lead of the night at the 14:32 mark of the first half. The two teams traded baskets over the next couple of minutes before a Moore putback gave Faulkner an 18-17 advantage. The Eagles never trailed again. Faulkner led 48-41 at the half and built as much as an 11-point lead in the final 20 minutes.
Back-to-back three-pointers by Alexander brought Reinhardt to within three at 71-68 with 6:43 to play, but the Eagles hit seven consecutive free throws over a three-minute stretch to protect their lead.
"It feels good to win,'' Faulkner head coach Jim Sanderson said. "We still made a lot of 'young player' mistakes, but they were honest mistakes. Our guys are playing as hard and as well as they can, and I really appreciated the effort tonight. We'll go back and look at the film and continue to try and get better.''
Faulkner travels to Cleveland, Tenn., Saturday afternoon to face 20th-ranked Lee at 3 p.m.
