The Badgers (1-2) sent the game to the extra period when Chris Dees, who had missed six of his first nine free throw attempts, knocked down two from the stripe with 2.2 seconds left in regulation. But it was all Faulkner in overtime, with Hereford slicing to the basket for a layup in the opening seconds that gave the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish.

“I am so proud of this team for how hard they fought tonight,’’ Faulkner head coach Jim Sanderson said. “And De, let me promise you, has made so much improvement from last season. I really think our guys are getting better each time out, and that’s something every coach likes to see.’’
Hereford made seven of eight free throws in overtime, and his basket with 1:31 left gave Faulkner its biggest lead of the night at 69-61. The Badgers got no closer than six the rest of the way.

Hereford, who only had two points on a pair of free throws in regulation, finished with seven assists and six rebounds to go along with his 13 points. Faulkner (2-1) was paced by forward Randell Moore’s 17 points and nine rebounds, while Reggie Dupree added 13 and Aaron Greenwood 11. Spring Hill’s Marcus Coleman led all scorers with 24. Dees contributed 13 for the Badgers, who also got 10 apiece from Jeremy Price and Nick Brown.
Spring Hill raced to a 9-2 lead early, but Faulkner answered with an 18-4 run to grab a 20-13 lead at the 12:03 mark. The Badgers battled back, however, and led by five late in the half before a Greenwood bucket and a Dupree three-pointer tied it at 34 at intermission.

Moore lays in two more for the Eagles
In a second half that saw neither team lead by more than five points, Faulkner’s Josh Gholston buried a long three to put the Eagles on top 59-56 at the 2:26 mark. Neither team made another basket in regulation, with Price’s free throw with 22 seconds left cutting the deficit to two. After a Faulkner turnover, Dees was fouled driving the baseline and calmly hit both free throws to force the overtime.
