Faulkner Wraps Up Fall Practice with Successful 100 Inning Game
Saturday October 22nd wrapped up the 2nd Annual 100 Inning Game at Harrison Field and also brought an end to the 7 weeks of practice for the Eagle Baseball Team. After 7 days, 600 outs, multiple hits and 100 innings, over $20,000 had been raised to help the baseball program. “Most of our guys did a pretty good job of raising money for our program”, said head coach Andy Priola. “You have to help them understand how much it takes to run a successful program. Umpires, buses, hotel rooms, uniforms, cleats, it all adds up to cost a great deal. This money raised by no means pays for it all but it definitely helps.” Money raised by the players not only helped the program as a whole but a large portion of the money raised by a player went to purchasing their personal equipment such as shoes, spikes and jackets.
Not only was the week successful in terms of raising money but the Eagle Baseball Team also got a good dose of competition as they were separated into different teams that competed against each other in tournaments. There was a machine pitch tournament where a pitching machine was set up on the mound and batters hit off of it and there was also a live tournament where real pitchers were on the mound. “The reason we had to have two different tournaments is because there was no way that we could have our pitchers throw 100 innings in a single week” said Priola, “plus our pitchers enjoy getting in their and taking some hacks off that machine as well.” Not only do the winning teams have bragging rights until next year, but they received championship t-shirts to sport as well. As the fall wraps up, the Eagles will now focus their attention on winter conditioning and getting ready for January when the season begins.
