Shep Mularz

Assistant Coach

     Shep Mularz is entering his second year as an assistant coach for the Eagles. He will work with the team’s defense and will serve as the first base coach.

     Mularz served as a graduate assistant for the Eagles from 2002 to 2004. He also served as an assistant coach for Ronnie Elmore at Montgomery Academy in 2003. That season Montgomery Academy made it to the state championship series at Paterson Field.
   
     The Montgomery native turned in a stellar two-year career as a player for Faulkner in 2000 and 2001. Mularz won several post-season awards, including a firt-team selection to the 2001 all-conference team. After his junior season he was selected to the national Christian College Athletic Association’s All-American team and played a major role in the Eagles’ race to the NCCAA national championship in 2001.

     He played for coach Sonney Vandevander at Jeff Davis High School, where he won the Sportsmanship Award in 1995 and the Gold Glove Award in 1996. Following his senior year with the Volunteers, Mularz was selected to the all-state and all-metro teams and was the all-metro player of the year. Before transferring to Faulkner he played for coach Rudy Abbott for two seasons at Jacksonville State University.

     Mularz is the son of Randy and Janet Mularz and has two brothers – Scott and Sy.

 

Sonny Davis

     Sonny Davis is entering his third season as an assistant coach for the Faulkner baseball program and will lead the junior varsity team this season.

     Davis, a Montgomery native, and has spent the last seven years coaching the Montgomery Force, a local high school club team. In that time the Force has won three state championships and the World Series in 2007.

     He also coached high school ball at Macon East Academy and Taylor Road Academy. While at Taylor Road, he led the program to its first winning season.

     Davis attended the University of Alabama and played football for the Crimson Tide for one year. After suffering a career-ending injury, he returned home to complete his education at Auburn University Montgomery.

     He and his wife Melinda have two children Chase, age 16, and Blair, age 5.
