Faulkner topples Tuskegee

Montgomery, Ala. – The Eagles baseball team took the field for the first time this season in a weekend series with Tuskegee University. Faulkner hosted the event which consisted of a doubleheader on Saturday followed by a nine inning game on Sunday. The Eagles swept the Golden Tigers 8-0, 6-3, 13-0.

Senior Brent DeFoor opened the series for the Eagles and struck out six batters and allowed only two hits. Freshman Matt Davis closed game one for Faulkner. Junior Kevin Leslie had a big game for Faulkner hitting 2-for-3 including a three-run blast in the fourth inning. Senior Brandon Reed was 2-for-3 at the plate and junior Jose Morillo was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Junior Mitch Whatley started game two for the Eagles allowing only a single run in five innings, while putting away six at the plate. Freshman Roberto Ferguson came in for two innings striking out three and allowing two runs. Junior Austin Adams was called into the game in the seventh with the bases loaded. Adams got the save by quickly picking off a distracted runner at second and then eliminating the final two threats with a strike out and ground out. Adams was also 1-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs.
On Sunday things continued to go down hill for the Golden Tigers. Sophomore Topher Blanchette and junior Gilbeto Amarante split the afternoon with Blanchette carrying four innings and Amarante three. Each pitcher gave up only two hits and one walk on the afternoon. Blanchette had seven strike outs while Amarante added three more.

Junior Winston Stone was excellent at the plate. He was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and two runs. Sophomore Justin Maynard was also 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Faulkner opens the much anticipated season at 3-0 and climbs to first in the conference standings. The Eagles look to continue the streak as they take on Spring Hill College in a doubleheader this afternoon. Game one is set for noon at Harrison Field.
