Faulkner destroys Reinhardt

Montgomery, Ala. – Faulkner opened conference play over the weekend with visiting Reinhardt College. After settling on new game times due to inclement weather the teams began the series with a nine inning game on Saturday evening followed by a doubleheader Sunday afternoon. Faulkner struggled little with the away team and out scored Reinhardt a staggering 34-6. The Eagles dominated game one 16-1 in just seven innings, pulled out a 5-2 win in game two and turned on the bats again in game three for a 13-3 win in the fifth.

 

     Brent DeFoor started game one for Faulkner and gave up only four hits and a single run over six innings, while striking out six batters. Kyle McCanless finished game one giving up only a single hit. Notables at the plate include Winston Stone who was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Jose Morillo who went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and Austin Adams who also went 2-for-3. Chris Myles was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Jonathan Gober was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

    

     Mitch Whatley took the mound for the Eagles in game two giving up just five hits and two runs over six innings while putting away three at the plate. Austin Adams added another strike out and got the save. Kevin Boyd was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and Jonathan Cagle finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.

 

     Topher Blanchette started game three for Faulkner and took out four at the plate while giving up four hits and three runs. Jose Morillo started off the game with a bang belting a grand slam in the first inning. Morillo finished the game 2-for-3 with five RBIs. Chris Myles was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Austin Adams was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Jonathan Cagle was 1-for-2 with three RBIs, Michael Dewitt was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and Kevin Leslie finished 2-for-4.

 

     Faulkner is currently 15-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference. They sit in the second slot in the SSAC behind 17-1 Lee University, also 3-0 in the conference. The two programs will face off this weekend in a three game this weekend in Cleveland, Tenn. A nine inning game is set for Friday at 2 p.m. CST with a  doubleheader beginning Saturday at 1 p.m. CST. The first Region rankings of the season were do out this afternoon, but no releases have been made. The first national rankings of the year are scheduled to be released on Wednesday.
