Feb. 15, 2008

Montgomery, Ala. – Faulkner played the first in a three game series this afternoon with visiting Georgetown College of Kentucky. The Tigers were able to jump out to an early lead and later rallied to tie the game in the top of the seventh, but a brilliant last effort clinched the game for the Eagles 4-3.

Kevin Boyd earns the run the hard way against Georgetown

After a scoreless first inning the Tigers were able to earn a run in the second to take an early lead. The Eagles hammered back in the third however, when Kevin Lesile earned his sixth home run of the season in two-run fashion. Faulkner added another run in the fourth and held the two run lead into the last inning.

How to hit a home run

Step One: Ball leaves unsuspecting pitcher's hand

In the top of the seventh Georgetown put up a great effort and tied the game at three. The Eagles needed strong batting in the bottom of the seventh and they got it from Winston Stone. With two outs and Leslie on base Stone cranked a screamer to deep right field that enabled Lesile to score from first ending the game.

Step Two: Ball wailed on by hitter, in this case Kevin Leslie

Mitch Watley had control of the mound in the today and allowed only six hits over seven innings. Kevin Leslie finished the game 1-for-1 with a two-run homer. Kevin Boyd was 2-for-3 and Winston Stone was 2-for-3 with a huge game winning RBI double.

Step Three: Ball lost over outfield wall

The Eagles continue to prove that they know how to win under pressure. This team is confident and well-coached and it becomes more evident with each display. The Eagles are now 11-1.

The Eagles will resume the series with Georgetown tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at noon. The games will be held at Harrison Field.
