Eagles knock out the Crusaders

Montgomery, Ala. – Faulkner extended its win streak to five games this afternoon after ousting William Carey College at Harrison Field. The Eagles took an early lead and continued pile on runs for the 10-6 victory.

Faulkner rotated a new pitcher into the game approximately every two innings. Jeff Baldwin threw the first two innings and allowed only a single hit and no runs while striking out three batters. Topher Blanchette took control of the mound in the third and pitched a pair of innings as well. The sophomore allowed three hits and two earned runs and had a strikeout. Next to the mound was freshman Matt Davis who strung together three innings for the Eagles. Davis also allowed three hits, but gave up no runs and added a strikeout. Jud Harper finished the final two inning for Faulkner. The junior had a strikeout, allowed three hits and three earned runs.

The Eagles’ offense was explosive this afternoon. After creeping in a run in the first inning on a William Carey balk, Faulkner fell behind 2-1 in the top of the fourth. The Eagles quickly rebounded that same inning however, when Jonathan Gober jumped off of first and the Crusaders’ catcher overthrew the baseman. The error allowed Kevin Villarreal to score and moved Gober all the way to third. While still in his stride, Gober took advantage of the unsuspecting defense and finished the trip home giving the Eagles a 3-2 lead.

Other big plays came via Austin Adams who put up an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth followed by a two-RBI double from Winston Stone. Michael Colley rocked an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning and Kevin Leslie added another RBI single for the 10-3 lead.

Winston Stone finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Kevin Leslie was 2-for-4 with a single RBI. Austin Adams went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Michael Colley was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

The win puts the Eagles at 27-19 on the season. Faulkner will host conference rival Emmanuel in a three game series beginning on Friday. A nine inning game is set for 6 p.m. on Friday followed by a doubleheader scheduled for noon on Saturday.
