Eagles split with Rams

Montgomery, Ala. – Faulkner hosted the University of Mobile in a doubleheader this afternoon at Harrison Field. Both games were close until the final out and the teams each took home a win. Mobile fended off a late rally in the opener for a 9-8 victory, but Faulkner returned the favor in game two and came out on top 5-4.

Topher Blanchette opened the series for the Eagles at the mound. He gave up 10 hits an four earned runs, while striking out two batters over five innings. Jordan Cowart finished the game for Faulkner. He allowed five hits and four earned runs.

Austin Adams had a spectacular game going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run and an RBI. He also scored three runs. Kevin Leslie was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two scored runs. Winston Stone was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Brandon Reed was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Roberto Ferguson started game two at the mound. He allowed six hits and an earned run and added a strike out in just over four innings. Matt Davis took over in the fifth and gave up four hits and three earned runs while striking out two. Austin Adams got the save and allowed only one hit.

Stone was 2-for-2 in the second game. TJ Santos was 1-for-3 with three RBIs and Chris Myles was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The split puts the Eagles at 23-19. Faulkner will take on conference rival Shorter in a three-game series beginning on Friday. The Hawks recently put an end to No. 2 Lee’s 34-game winning streak defeating the Flames two games to one in the series. Game one is set for 6 p.m. at Harrison Field. A doubleheader will follow on Saturday beginning at noon.
