Faulkner, AUM split pair

Faulkner took advantage of a seventh-inning error to push across three unearned runs Saturday and gain a split of a doubleheader against Auburn Montgomery with a 4-1 win.

    AUM starter Stephen Yates (6-2) and Faulkner starter Raul Torres locked up in a 1-1 pitching duel through six innings. AUM scored its lone run in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI sacrifice fly from Justin Williams. Yates walked the first two batters in the top of the fourth, and two Faulkner groundouts brought around the tying run.

    Faulkner's Daniel Esparza (3-1) got the win in relief.

    AUM won Saturday's first game 5-1 behind the strong pitching of starter Daniel Holder (6-1), who went the distance, allowing only one hit and striking out 10.

    AUM's Cody Shields collected two hits with a run scored and an RBI, and Tanner Williams had three hits and two RBIs, including his first home run of the season in the second inning.

    Faulkner (19-11, 6-4 SSAC) hosts Mobile in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday. AUM (16-13, 7-4) will travel to West Alabama on Wednesday.
