Faulkner sweeps Mid-Contient

Faulkner hosted Mid-Continent University in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Harrison field. The Eagles blasted the Cougars 16-4 in five innings in game one and after an aggressive start in game two held on for the 8-6 victory.

The Eagle's offense put up 16 hits in just five innings to claim the opener. Austin Adams got things started with a sacrifice fly and Jose Morillo cranked a two-run homer to round out the opening inning.
Ryan Reece followed with a two-run blast of his own in the second.
Michael Colley hit a two-RBI single, Reece added a two-RBI double and Josh Lock knocked in a pair of runs in the fourth.

Winston Stone ripped a run-scoring double in the fifth as did J.P. Daily. Reece offered the bookend to game one with a walk-off three-run homer.
Reece lead the offense going 3-for-4 with seven RBIs. Morillo was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, Colley 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Adams 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Jordan Smith gave up only a single earned run in the win. Roberto Ferguson finished the game for the Eagles with a pair of strikeouts in one and a third innings.
Game two started with more of the same. Stone had an RBI double, Colley a run-scoring single, Reece a two RBI double, Cody Bridgman an RBI single and David Holcombe a two-run homer to give the Eagles a 7-1 lead in the first.

The Cougars began to creep back in subsequent innings however, as Faulkner began circulation in the bullpen. The birds ran eight different pitchers in the seven-inning event and held on for the victory.

Jeff Baldwin got the win allowing only two earned runs over two innings. Daniel Esparza got the save.
Holcombe was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Bridgman 2-for-3 with an RBI, Colley 2-for-2 with an RBI and Reece and Stone were both 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Faulkner is now 17-10 overall and will take on cross-town rival Auburn Montgomery in a three-game conference series this weekend. The Senators are 6-3 in the league and will host the 4-3 Eagles in a nine-inning game Friday at 6 pm. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
